820 - But wait, it gets worse!

"I hear this show was made with a French audience in mind. Not knocking France or anything (Hell Americans do that enough) but I would like a word with them on comedic tastes. While they're getting season 2, I cannot say I am in a huge rush to sit through this a second time."

Well, around December 8th (at time of writing the bulk of this review) with 2/3 PS4 games disappointing me and I wasn't feeling in the right mood to watch Keijo or Angry Birds on DVD, I decided to have a quick glance at Season 2's current output. Maybe it was the Vodka I drunk, those 2 PS4 games lacking in quality, the half awake mind-set I have in December, the ear infection that flared up in the night like a complete buggerance or I was too bored to watch Porn. Whatever the reason, I watched the few episodes December aired of Season 2.

Well Season 2 is currently that again if not worse! It's not just dated internet memes this time oh no, it's also cringe worthy references to Sonic himself! I do admit I chuckled with the AOSTH segment in the first episode, but the Blast Processing gag comes off as obnoxious. The references/pandering continues with the use of a mic drop and even taking the time to mock Sonic's nerdy fanbase. Yeah we get it "Sonic's fans are weird and obsessive!" 2005 just called, it wants it's joke back! This isn't just beating a dead horse, it's punching the ground where the sawdust from the bones of the dead horse used to be. It wasn't cute when Teen Titans Go poked fun at the audience and it's equally unfunny here. If you truly wanted to get a laugh out of me Sonic Boom, you could begin with mocking your terrible scripts! I can accept a joke at the audiences expense, but the joke has to be "funny" for that to happen! Poking fun at Sonic's fanbase at this point is like stating the sky is blue! Real fucking original champ, next thing you'll be telling me is that Nintendo make terrible consoles. If the studio had any balls, Sonic's obsessive fan would have started macing Gamestop employees, talking about "Hot Chick Heaven" or had a Amy dakimakura but instead goes into a lazy parody of Misery. I'm not sure you should be referencing psychological horror movies in a kids show about a cartoony rat. What's next? Knuckles becomes obsessed with the number 23 and Amy watches "that video tape?"

Mind you, I could picture Sticks being obsessed with Slender Man, but I digress.

The character consistency is all over the place again. Sticks goes from petty asshole to Alex Jones between episodes. Sonic is behaving like Peter Griffin, to the point I was convinced he was launching into a cutaway gag at the start of Alone Again, Unnaturally. Tails is behaving more childishly, Amy is still the same and Knuckles.... Well he's Knuckles. As I mentioned in my Ubisoft rant (You can just tell I had a HAPPY December can't you?) the studios and writers don't know how to write for a younger audience in mind. They think kids love Internet memes, references and lazy writing like this. If you have to reference things your target audience are into then how about, and this is just me thinking out loud here, paying attention to what they're currently into? Online shooters, the MCU, current pop music or fuck it why not flat out do a Dragonball Super parody? Considering Sonic's been "borrowing" ideas from Dragonball for decades now.

Watching how Sonic these days is a little less "Hedgehog with Attitude" and more like Steve Buscemi.

I remarked that Sticks and Eggman were the best things about Season 1. Well I guess the writers don't like praise for this show and went out of their way to take away everything I liked about Sticks. Eggman remains unchanged but his appearances have been greatly reduced. Why would you reduce the appearance of the ONLY DECENT CHARACTER you have!? I think the only time he was in the episode from start to finish was the "I can't believe it's a bad Armageddon parody." His plans and motivations have really become petty and inconsequential lately. Like he's been taking villainy advice from Mojo Jojo. Sticks on the other hand I really hope contracts rabies and is soundly put down. Thanks a lot writers, you took a character I was beginning to like and you made me hate her all over again.

Call me spoiled but I expect better writing than this. Yet much like Teen Titans Go and the "well received" Powerpuff Girls Reboot, Sonic Boom is still a lazy, lazy show. With the kind of humour that appeals to the lowest common denominator and just isn't funny. It relies on jokes that were funny about 4 years ago (probably when the scripts were written) that I expect Dabbing, Dat Boi, You Reposted in the Wrong Neighborhood, Donald Trump, We're Number 1 and Pepe in Season 5 if that ever shows up. Now I know what you're going to say "URGH WHO FUKIN KARES? ITZ A FUKIN KIDS SHOW!!!" to that end I will say the same 5 words when I'm confronted with dogshit such as Sonic Boom, Teen Titans Go and any other lazy nostalgic revival that makes wisdom teeth surgery more enjoyable in comparison.

"Kids deserve better than this!"

I mean look at Transformers Animated. THAT is how you do it! Down to Earth antics, comedic character development mixed in with the over the top violence and plot the franchise is known for. Or how about Dragonball Super? Slice of life comedy one minute. Power levels and Armageddon the next. In short. Shows that CAN strike the balance and give the audience exactly what they want, and what they want is NOT having their favourite heroes lounging around like entitled hipsters, making smarmy comments while farting out an Internet meme that hasn't been funny since George W Bush was in office! Say what you want about The Simpsons lack of quality these days, but at least Homer doesn't reek of "How do you do fellow kids?"

So that was a quick look at Season 2. Same shit but now twice as runny.
